Hi all,

As with the bird queries a couple of days ago, we are excavating a
small medieval (12th/14th century date range) manor house in
Ovingdean, East Sussex. We have identified a ferret skull, mandibles
and a section of a further maxilla, together with possible vertebra -
i.e. two animals.

Does anyone know of any other incidences of ferrets in medieval
contexts? These bones were located in a cellar area (approx. 1m below
the surface) with deposits of sheep (MNI 7 to date) and dog (MNI 3 to
date) bones, together with the aforesaid birds, and also rodent
remains.
