MScEcon Information Governance and Assurance

A propos of some of the fascinating and somewhat distracting debates (for
those of us who were in the middle of a Study School for Distance Learners
last week), I wanted to bring to the attention of list members a new Masters
Programme which is now being offered here at Aberystwyth. It is particularly
relevant to this debate about our professional identities, whether we call
ourselves records or information managers, archivists or librarians; whether we
work in commercial, public or voluntary organisations and whether we
specialise in historical materials or digital media.

We, as information professionals, have ever expanding responsibilities for
managing information and records and ensuring compliance with relevant
legislation, regulation and standards. We are tasked with enabling both short
and longer term access to information, whilst ensuring it has not been
compromised or inappropriately accessed.

The new Masters in Information Governance and Assurance includes modules in
Compliance, Law and Ethics, Information Assurance, Records Management and
System and Business Process Analysis. It will be available as a full/part time on
campus programme from September 2010 but is in the process of acquiring off
campus or distance learning status for 2010 also.

If you are interested in learning more about the programme, please contact
Kirsten Ferguson-Boucher on [log in to unmask] or by phone, 01970 622069.
We have literature available on the programme and welcome your thoughts on
the modules offered and the rationale behind the scheme.

Look forward to hearing from those of you who may be interested.

Have a good week!

Regards
Kirsten
