Dear all, This email contains several important pieces of information: 1. Forthcoming deadline for paper and panel proposals for PSA 2010 2. New membership rules and subscription to Politics & Gender 3. PSA Women and Politics conference, Manchester, 19 February 2010 4. Nominations for new co-convenor *1. Forthcoming deadline for paper and panel proposals for PSA 2010* The deadline is fast approaching for submitting paper and panel proposals for the PSA's 60th anniversary conference, Edinburgh, 30 March - 1 April 2010. At present we have a complete panel proposal submitted on Margaret Thatcher. I also have two stand-alone papers that I would like to be able to place in relevant panels. One is by Wendy Stokes and looks at the 300 group, formed in the 1980s to promote women's entry into Parliament. The other, by Elizabeth Evans and Lisa Harrison, looks at whether second-order elections provide favourable opportunities for women's (s)election. If anyone would like to contribute a paper to form a panel with either of these papers, please let me know asap. In addition, if anyone would like to submit a paper or panel that is sponsored by the Women and Politics group, please send details to me *no later than 12 October. *The PSA deadline for submissions is 15 October and I need a little time beforehand to process the submissions. *2. New membership rules and subscription to Politics & Gender* The rules for membership are changing as of next year. The first change is at the behest of PSA, whereby we have to charge membership fees to all members, with a higher rate for those who are not a member of the PSA. This change is reflected in our membership form. Secondly, we are now offering discounted subscriptions to the leading journal in our field, Politics & Gender, as part of our membership package. We hope that many of you will wish to take advantage of this. We are providing an opt-out for those who already receive the journal by other means or who do not wish to receive it. This new scheme will run from the start of 2010, but in order to have everything in place, we are asking those who wish to receive the subscription to Politics & Gender to complete the membership form now. This will aid the publisher by ensuring that sufficient copies are printed and ensuring that the journal is posted out on time from the first issue of 2010. A membership form is attached. Due to all of the above, there are now quite a few membership options to choose from, but don't hesitate to ask if you are in any doubt or would like clarification. I should also add that graduate students are entitled to the bargainous rate of membership plus subscription to P&G for just £10. An additional reason to complete your membership form early is that it will entitle you to a £15 discount on registration for our specialist group conference (see below). *3. PSA Women and Politics conference, Manchester, 19 February 2010* Please come to our biennial specialist group conference, which will be taking place in Manchester on 19 February 2010. Details and registration forms are available on the conference website: http://www.socialsciences.manchester.ac.uk/disciplines/politics/events/shiftingagendas/. A flyer is also attached. The call for papers is open and the *deadline is* *1 November 2009*. Nominations for co-convenor* I would like to thank Marc Calivni-Lefebvre for his many contributions to our group over the past two years, including the design and maintenance of our website: http://psawomenpolitics.wordpress.com/. Due to other commitments, Marc will be standing down at the end of his term in February 2010. We would like to invite nominations for anyone interested in joining me as co-convenor from February 2010. I would be very happy to discuss what this would entail with anyone interested in knowing more. Self-nominations are very welcome. If we receive more than one candidate, we will organise an election.
