HI Sarah,

I agree with Bob’s advice I would probably refer on to OHP for final decision and it depends what the university can accommodate in terms of reasonable adjustments and what the balance of theory to practice is particularly within the first year or so. I did come across an interesting NMC document recently which I have attached. It is a literature review regarding reasonable adjustments in nursing and midwifery. This may be helpful.

Regards

Bev

Hi Sarah,

This falls into the sphere of 'fitness to practice'.  Personally it would be one occasion where I would 'slope shoulders' and hand-off to an OH physician to make the decision.

Regards, Bob

Dear List

I would be most grateful for any advice in regards to the following issue,

How long would a potential student need to be seizure free prior to being accepted to undertake their midwifery training?

I have an application from a student whose last seizure was only 2 months ago, she has been on treatment since January. My instinct is to advise the school to defer her place, but any other views would be welcome.

Many thanks

Sarah
