I would disagree. A workstation can be set up for an individual
with height adjustment by blocks if it is going only to be used by only that
person.
I have a number of staff that are over 6 foot and therefore need
a raised desk and this has been achieved by the addition of semi permanent
blocks made to order by our maintenance dept. They obviously have to be stable
and fit for purpose and not a couple of house bricks, but there is no
obligation to ensure everyone that needs a raised desk should have an electric
adjustable one. There are other alternatives also like desks with crank handles
and adjustable fixed height desks.
If the individual is very short then they can have a standard
desk with the chair correctly adjusted and provision of a foot rest that can be
locked in the horizontal position thereby creating an artificial floor for the
feet to rest on whilst seated.
If you can show in the DSE regs where it say we have to provide
adjustable desks then I will eat humble pie and impart this bad news to my
employer.

Compulsory, so the work station can be set-up to HSE guidelines
without having to use blocks or chop off table legs.

I
have been asked a question regarding height adjustable desks – a luxury
or a compulsory item?
Thanks,
