Hi Margaret,

If a young person is on work experience they come under the Education umbrella.

The educators are responsible for ensuring that the appropriate risk assessments are in place for the young people prior to placement.

As I understand it there should not be a need for OH involvement in these circumstances.

In law people are not considered to be an adult until they are 18 so parental consent is required for pre-employment screening.

Hi Margaret

Is the work experience about watching work.

surely it would be more sensible for the person giving the placement to establish if a young person (it is generally young people on work experience) is asked if they need anything to keep them safe the parent could be involved in that conversation as consent for work experience is usually a requirement.

Surely school should be communicating any needs too this may include the persons health details rather than OH being involved.

Also the young persons regs need to be considered by the appointing manager with the specialist risk assessment required which is where these things should be discussed with the parent/teacher if the child is under school leaving age..

Morning all,

Just wondering if anyone can help me with information on work experience and health questionnaires.  I have recently come across an area of our business where they are getting health questionnaires from young people signed by their parents.  Is this a legal requirement?  What sort of information should be gathered and by who?  I have some concerns re data protection and this possible sensitive health information.  If anyone else has experience and information on this, please could you share it with me.

Thank you

Margaret Mercer
