medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

I had a similar thing happen when I bought my copy of W.C. Lukis ‘on the Church Bells of Wiltshire’ from the second-hand bookshop in Witney (not for a modest sum, alas).  On opening the book I found some notes in a very recognisable hand; that of James Jerram, whose notes on Wiltshire bells form the basis of H.B. Walters book on the subject.  The Lukis originally belonged to Canon Raven, the noted Dorset bell historian so it has an eminent history of owners.

My paperback version, which I acquired for a very modest sum has some further interest in that it belonged to John F R Tolkien, eldest son of JRR of "Lord of the Rings" fame. He bought it in October 1957 and wrote it was bought with tokens of the Paper Sellers Guild, Sparkhill. John F R Tolkien was later a Catholic Priest in the Midlands.
