Getting Health Information to the Public: FAIFE and Phi in Partnership in East Africa

Date: Wednesday, 14th October 2009

Time:
18.00 - 19.45

Place: Charter Suite East, CILIP, 7 Ridgmount Street, London WC1E 7AE

You are invited to join us for this ILIG Informal when Paul Sturges, who was chair of IFLA FAIFE (Freedom to Access to Information and Freedom of Expression) until August 2009, and Shane Godbolt, Director of Phi (Partnerships in Health Information) will be sharing their experiences of a pilot 'training the trainer' project to encourage librarians to get involved in the provision of health information to the general public in developing countries.

Workshop materials were developed by a wide partnership (including colleagues from Cuba) and piloted at 3 workshops in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania at the beginning of August. Paul and Shane will take a break from their punishing schedules of international activity to talk about the project and its role in both the wider advocacy programmes of IFLA and the dense networks of health information provision for the public that have so far hardly begun to include libraries and the library profession.

The access codes for the building are E, G, W, X.

ILIG Informals are not lectures; they are informal, but informative, early evening meetings with a short talk on a theme of international interest plus plenty of time for questions and networking. They are open to all and absolutely free. Light refreshments are served which is why we ask you to let us know you are coming by contacting us by 12th October. We look forward to seeing you.

The International Library and Information Group is a special interest group of CILIP: the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals, registered charity number 313014.
