“Strategic Alliances and Partnerships in Interlending and Document
Supply” is the theme of the 11th ILDS Conference which will take place from October 20th to 22nd , 2009 in Hannover, Germany.
The conference will debate the full scope of LDS and plot the direction in which it is heading within an environment that includes ‘Big Deals, ‘Open Access and the budgetary cuts that are coming in most institutions. It will reveal and highlight both recent trends and foreseeable developments.
ILDS has always been about a network of partners working together in the library and publishing arenas. It is clear that interactions with these and other partners, such as aggregators and subscription agencies, are of great strategic importance. It is therefore essential that libraries view document supply not as an isolated line of business, but instead as a key component of the overall process of library
management. This process includes political and legal issues such as copyright
and negotiations with rights holders as well as technical developments.
Contributions from renowned expert speakers from all five continents,
plenty of space for professional and personal exchange and discussion, as
well as library and regional sight-seeing tours into the outskirts of
Hannover will nourish both mind and soul.
All international participants are invited to visit Germany’s vibrant
capital Berlin and/or to attend the Frankfurt International Book Fair in pre- and
post-conference arrangements.
The German Federal Minister of Education and Research, Prof. Annette
Schavan, has accepted the patronage of this conference.
The Conference is jointly organized by the International Federation of
Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) and the three German National
Libraries:
Ø The German National Library of Science and Technology (TIB) in Hannover,
Ø The German National Library of Medicine, Nutrition, Environment and Agriculture (ZB MED) in Cologne and Bonn and
Ø The German National Library of Economics (ZBW) in Hamburg and Kiel. All three form the strategic alliance known as “Goportis”, bundling and interlocking these libraries’ long-standing know-how in the field of information supply.
