Workshop Goal and scope (see attached file)

e-Inclusion policy promotes the use of ICT to overcome social exclusion, and improve economic performance, employment opportunities, quality of life, social participation and cohesion[1]. Ethics are an integral part of the EU concept of e-Inclusion, which: “is necessary for social justice, ensuring equity in the knowledge society”[2].   Indeed, the Riga Declaration (2006) has already called for increasing ethical awareness. Ethical issues are at the core of the Ambient Intelligence Paradigm and are also central to ageing well in the Information and Communication Society. Research projects have to address also this fundamental issue and develop recommendations for the future.

The main goal of the workshop is to discuss ethical issues related to the widely-considered best Ambient Intelligence (AmI) solutions, which are aimed at providing benefits to users if they have access to basic ICT facilities, the appropriate training and are motivated, Hence, the relevance of social, cultural and economic contexts will be also dealt with regard to AmI-related ethical issues.

Moreover, particular attention must be paid to improving user motivation, trust and confidence towards Ambient Intelligence use, to increasing security and privacy protection, to furthering quality of life, autonomy and safety, as ethic norms are conspicuously observed.

The workshop will take place from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm.
