Animal Pasts in London Today

London was a modern city with a population of over a million people by the start of the nineteenth century. But it was and still is a city in which animals have lived, worked and died  alongside humans.

In this illustrated talk Dr Hilda Kean FRHistS , author of Animal Rights. Political and Social Change in Britain since 1800, will look at traces of animal pasts that still exist today in London’s streets, parks and in the London Metropolitan Archives!'

Gothic Night!

Join Mike Carey, author of ‘The Devil You Know’, the first novel in the Felix Castor series, for a night of strangeness and mystery.  Mike set some of the novel’s spooky action in an archive and it all seems oddly familiar. The evening will include an introduction to some fascinating items from the archives, readings and renditions from the work of some of our spookiest London authors and a glimpse behind the scenes.

Mike has worked for both DC and Marvel Comics, writing storylines for some of the world's most iconic characters, including X-MEN, FANTASTIC FOUR, LUCIFER and HELLBLAZER. He currently has a movie, TRINITY, in development with Slingshot Pictures. Mike has also adapted Neil Gaiman's acclaimed NEVERWHERE into comics.
