Dear all,

A Research Associate position is available to work on an MRC-funded project on "Inferring Epidemiological causality using Mendelian Randomisation" which is a collaborative project between the Universities of Leicester and Bristol. The research involved will either focus on the theoretical aspects of instrumental variable methods in epidemiological applications, in particular with regard to problems of formal causal inference and binary disease outcomes or on related applied problems. The research will be motivated by real applications and will involve working closely with a strong applied program of research at Bristol. This is primarily a Leicester based post, but there is flexibility for working in Bristol.

The successful candidate should have a PhD in mathematics, statistics, statistical genetics or related discipline or equivalent research experience. Good analytical and computing skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills and evidence of research productivity (e.g. publications, presentations etc.) are essential. Due to the collaborative nature of the project, effective interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team member as well as independently are also essential. Knowledge of biology or experience in the research field are not essential as long as there is a strong interest in applying mathematics to biological applications and willingness to learn what is necessary.

The successful candidate will be rewarded with an exciting and outstanding interdisciplinary research environment that will support his/her research career.
