Details: This position is responsible for the
operational management of the main counter and public access areas of the
Library, liaising with Library Support Assistants to ensure the day-to-day
supervision of the library assistants while they are on counter duty. This role
involves the management of the public access computers in the library and
liaison with the Trust IT department. The post holder will work closely with the
Library Manager to manage the print journal collection, and with the Electronic
Resources Librarian to manage electronic journal subscriptions, and for liaison
with the library journals subscription agent. This role is responsible for
ensuring the library procedures operate within Copyright and Data Protection
Law. The post-holder will participate in the Dedicated Librarian Service,
providing specialised services to specific departments. The role will work with
the library team to contribute to the day-to-day running of the Library and
Information Service.
Criteria: .Degree and/or postgraduate qualification
in Library and Information Science .ECDL .Advanced Literature searching skills
.Advanced internet searching skills .Expert user of MS office .Effective
communication at all levels both verbal and written, together with the ability
to relate to staff, peers, medical staff, and other professional groups and
external bodies. .Ability to work without direct supervision .Excellent team
worker .Ability to work on own initiative .Ability to organise and prioritise
workload to meet deadlines .Good attention to detail .Expert knowledge relating
to counter services within a library. .Good knowledge of automated library
management systems .Good knowledge of Information Technology use with a library.
.Good knowledge of journals management; paper based and electronic access.
.Knowledge of the Principles of Evidence Based Health Care .Expert knowledge of
health care clinical databases and electronic resources. .Good knowledge of
Copyright and Data protection laws relating to libraries. .Knowledge of Critical
Appraisal techniques. .Minimum of 2 years experience in an NHS, academic or
special library. .Experience of troubleshooting general IT problems (hardware
and software).
