Assistant Librarian

Salary: Band 5 - £20,710 to £26,839 per annum, pro rata

Hours: 15 hours per week

A vacancy has arisen within the Essex Public Health Resource Unit Library (EPHRU) for a librarian/information specialist.

You will join a small professional team offering expert knowledge services to staff across the Primary Care Organisations (PCOs) in Essex, with a focus on public health and commissioning. We are proud of the innovative and efficient service we offer.

Your role will be to provide routine library and information services similar to and in conjunction with those carried out in East of England Hospital Trust Libraries i.e. Inter-Library Loans, Document Delivery, Athens registration and literature searching etc. Experience in these areas is therefore essential.

You will play a varied and flexible role as part of the team in delivering the service (particularly with the Assistant Librarian - Reader Services) - which also involves enquiry work, cataloguing, current awareness, knowledge management, promotion and ad hoc duties. The diversity of the work makes it interesting - you may, for example, be asked to find evidence to support policy and exceptional case panel decisions, to work with research forums, health improvement forums and Alliances (e.g. obesity and smoking), as well as providing support for staff engaged in further education or CPD activities.

Working in a field with users from very varied disciplines (HCWs, HVs, CEOs - we serve all the acronyms!) and with differing methods of service delivery, this role may offer a learning opportunity for those wishing to broaden their horizons and career options. There may also be skills and new ideas that you can bring to the post from your own experience in the library and information profession that will be beneficial to our working practice.

We are looking for a candidate with a degree or postgraduate qualification in library/information studies, or a recognised professional library qualification (e.g. CILIP), excellent communication skills, an ability to work on their own initiative, relevant IT experience and experience of information work, preferably in the health sector.

The post is located in Witham, Essex. For more detail and a map please go to our website www.ephru.nhs.uk <http://www.ephru.nhs.uk/>

The Primary Care Trust is committed to equal opportunities and flexible working practices.
