Hi Andy,

You have my sympathy.

In relation to usage statistics it's always amazed me that publishers haven't considered providing us with ready made analysis of our usage statistics. As these are such an important metric these days in deciding whether to continue subscribing to content you might think they would provide us with some sort of summary report each year to prove their worth and retain us as subscribers especially in these difficult financial times.

One publisher that seems to have grasped this (although this only relates to my own experience) is JSTOR who have kindly for the 1st time provided subscribers with a "top-level" view of our 2008 usage. It's not as detailed as the usage data we can download, but as an annual snapshot of our usage of the service it's a very welcome addition.

Maybe other publishers might consider following this very useful example?

Cheers
Lesley

Subject: [LIS-E-RESOURCES] A Friday thought.....

On my North Kent to North East Essex bike ride this morning I was
mulling over my past week of attempts at journal linking and statistics
gathering... as you do at 70-ish mph in the outside lane of the A12....

What I want from my institutional subscription is two things.

My institutional users to gain access to it under the terms of the
licence
To be informed of my users use of that subscription

And I don't want to spend half my week trying to work out how to link it
or how to gain access to 10 publisher administration sites to get any
useful usage stats.

So any publishers out there concentrating on delivering easy access (and
that doesn't just mean IP address - coz some institutions like the NHS
would have to enable the whole of the NHS this way!!!!! - the main
reason why we have Athens) and send me - as the subscription manager -
regular usage updates.... will gain my grateful thanks.

Yep it's been a frustrating week.........
