Registration for this year's UK Society for Social Medicine, Annual Scientific Meeting will close at midnight on 20th August 2009 GMT+1.

There are only a few places left, so please do not delay if you are planning to register for the conference.

As usual there is a great scientific programme, with 90 parallel papers, 60 posters and 5 plenary papers, including the Cochrane Lecture given by Professor Sally Macintyre ("Good intentions and received wisdom are not enough") and the Pemberton Lecture, given by Professor Valerie Beral ("The causes and prevention of breast cancer").

There will also be an exciting range of social events, including a reception at the stunning Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art on Gateshead Riverside, a conference dinner at Beamish Hall, followed by dancing to a terrific, local céilidh band, and four great social trips on Thursday afternoon, including visits to a world heritage site, national park, industrial museum and a historical walking tour. We are also attempting to make this a sustainable conference and hope to set a new standard for green credentials at SSM events.

In addition, there will be a satellite meeting on 8th June in Newcastle on the theme of "Intervention-generated inequalities" with a great line up of speakers. You can book for this on the conference website and obtain a discount for both events.

Please go to www.ssm2009.org.uk to find out more and register for SSM2009 before midnight on 20th August 2009 GMT+1.

We look forward to welcoming you to Newcastle!
