Hi all, I wanted to add to Munier's piece that yes, this discussion must be evidence based for the decisions are not to be made without factoring in the evidence and the cost. Cost is very important. We need calm sensible heads for the matter is indeed complex yet why cant we get to a place in each nation, where all people have the right to free basic health care to meet their basic needs. Excess and cosmetics and the like are a separate discussion. I agree and argue for this as a fundamental 'right' and not just for those who can afford and if we can spend so much daily, on war efforts, on destruction, on excesses....then we should be able to do the same in health care. A nation's health care system really is a testament to the strength of the nation. It is not your military strength, it is your health system...the health of your people...and the
care provided...that is the strength of your nation. This is my view, insignificant yet what I offer.
Each human being in this world, regardless of colour, ethnicity, financial ability, must have a basic level of health and access to health and the discussion should be on how we can go about doing this. We could refine and upgrade whether you have the cadillac plan or the bicycle plan (if you wish to have the Rolls Royce plan...knock yourself out), but we should aim to have a basic set of health for all. Guaranteed by each nation via its own Health Care Act (or the like). Some basic health care that while 'basic' and guaranteed, allows for decency, with one's humanity, and dignity not being trampled upon either.
Best,
Paul
