Research Fellow

King’s Patient Safety and Service Quality Research Centre (King’s PSSQ), Division of Health and Social Care Research.
Deadline 11th September 2009
Summary This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant contribution to a successful, high-profile research centre. King's Patient Safety and Service Quality Research Centre (King's PSSQ) is one of two national PSSQ centres, funded by the National Institute for Health Research. The centres have been funded for a 5 year period from 2007-2012 (at £1million annually), and are intended to pilot small scale “proof of concept” studies, applying theoretical research on safety and quality in the health care environment. If successful, such pilot projects will act as launch-pads for larger scale grant applications for more substantial studies to be carried out. The King's Patient Safety and Service Quality Research Centre is a partnership between King's College London and King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. There are four research programmes within the King's PSSQ Centre – Risk, Innovations, Organisational Governance, and Workforce.
Details The Research Fellow will be expected to lead the following theme in the Innovations programme - Evaluation of quality and safety of emerging innovative health technologies. We are developing and piloting quality, safety and governance frameworks for emerging health technologies, and examining the implementation impact within the healthcare system. Both topics draw on a range of theoretical and methodological frameworks to develop hypotheses which can be tested in practice using complex intervention evaluation frameworks and methodologies.

The postholder will work independently and will be working with a multidisciplinary research team in delivering the project objectives. Applicants must have a PhD and (ideally) research experience in relevant social science or health science research, either in the health field or elsewhere. An ability to work independently, to work to tight deadlines and to work flexibly to meet the varied demands of the role is required as well as excellent written and oral communication.
Salary The salary will be between £39,974 and £47,253 per annum, inclusive of £2,323 London Allowance, depending on experience.
Post duration The position is full-time and will be a fixed term appointment until 31 March 2012.
