Hi

Following on from Rachel Campbell's email on 27th July about the changes to the WGSN service [see below], I'm sure we're all in a similar situation re the bad timing and short notice of their decision, the lack of extra funds, staff on leave, etc. I'd be grateful if relevant librarians could email me about whether their institution has signed up for the new WGSN @ £3000, or whether we can make some collective complaint and stance on the matter. Thank you.

Kind regards,

Hello

How many of us in the academic sector have recently been contacted by WGSN?

At the end of last week I received a telephone call to say that they're pulling the WGSN-edu site at the end of August, and are offering us subscription access to the full commercial WGSN.com site. I've just had a virtual tour of this (about 20 minutes ago), and have had the opportunity to ask some questions. The functionality is much better, but their timing isn't brilliant as there's nobody here and our finances won't be sorted till sometime next month. The PIN system is vanishing, so users would have one username and password to share, and it would be on campus only.

Apparently "a lot of universities are taking advantage" of the offer - has anybody done so yet, or is that just some sales patter?

Kind regards

Rachel
