I'm trying to find out if something I heard a while ago is actually true. We have a protocolised CDU / observation ward which is in the process of expanding and it seems strange that we can have a patient in the ward for around 2 to 4 hours and the PCT get charged the full days admission rate on the tarriff. Has anyone got a local agrement with their PCT to charge a reduced rate for stays on the CDU as opposed to a full admission rate? Is this an urban myth? Any help gratefully received.
