A science writer with experience of writing for children (KS2 level) is needed to produce educational materials that will be made available via the web. We have identified a number of topics relating to how satellites can help us better understand the
natural world. Each topic will require explanatory text of no more than 1500 words, in several sections, to introduce the subject and explain some of the more interesting aspects in greater detail. Additional funds will be made available for a writer who is
able to produce teaching notes to link the work with the KS2 curriculum.
Satellite imagery and information that has already been produced for an adult audience will be made available to writers as background material. We can also provide access to suitable scientists to help understand content if this is needed.
The first three topics will focus on the use of satellites to monitor natural disasters, deforestation and ice sheets/glacial retreat. Over the coming year, we hope to cover 12 topics in total. Further work will therefore be available, subject to successful
delivery of the first three topics.
Please send a covering letter, CV and two/three examples of your science writing for KS2 children, plus a quote for delivery of three topics.
The deadline for applications is 21st August.
Further information, including more detail about the scope of the topics is available from Poppy Leeder (

the first instance and provide your contact details)
