Poets wanted -- Over 40 people came to Perth Poetry Club last week, most of them non-poets wanting to LISTEN! Your audience awaits. Guest MC Mark Hutchins. SUE CLENNELL looks younger every time we see her. She is often the most interestingly-dressed person in the room, and her poetry competes pretty well with her clothes. She has been widely published and was runner-up in the 2006 Josephine Ulrick Poetry Prize. She has been a writer-in-residence at the Katharine Susannah Prichard Writers Centre and is at present Creative Writing Facilitator for The Society of Women Writers WA. MAR BUCKNELL works as an editor, and takes this skill to an extreme in his own poetry. In the poetry scene he is known for his short, thoughtful pieces and his inventive performance style. We'd like to talk about the latter but we don't want to spoil any surprises Mar may have for you. 1 AUG: P L (Paula) Jones + Mark Lloyd PAULA JONES is a teacher and writer living in the Perth hills. She has lived and taught in Japan, Vietnam and Singapore. Although her poems are often short Paula tries to pump them full of hormones and genetic modifications. What looks rosy on the outside is often rotten in the core. Currently she is a community broadcaster and chairperson of the KSP Writers' Centre in Greenmount. MARK LLOYD, 22, has been making words that sound the same to explain things since 14. First under the alias "MC Marksman" and now as the frontman of Dome Sunset who have just completed their first EP "joy". Mark was the national runner-up in the 2008 Australian Poetry Slam. He is an emcee that never learned how to master the ceremony but nevertheless is happy to be a part of it. Mark used to freestyle battle a lot but stopped because it's not fun hurting people's feelings for profit. He is currently gigging with Dome Sunset around Perth and hoping to tour soon. 8 AUG: Belowsky + ... TBA Plus open stage.
