Abby,

Here in Bury we allow social networking for adults (over 14), but deny
for children. Some children do complain that they cannot get access, but
this is our filtering policy. We get quite a few complaints from adults
if for some reason they cannot get onto their facebook site (this has
happened a few times when we have had problems with our web filter). I
suspect a lot of our users would spend all day on Facebook, if we let
them - even in this weather.

Subject: Social networking on public access computers

Hello everyone,

Wiltshire libraries currently block access to social networking sites on
all our public access PCs. I am currently reviewing this policy and I am
keen to find out how many library authorities:

(a) allow access to social networking sites for all users
(b) block access to social networking sites for children but allow adult
access (and at what age this applies)
(c) block access to social networking sites for all users

I would also be interested to know from libraries that have unblocked
these whether it has caused any negative feedback from users or whether
it has increased usage.

Many thanks,

Abby Moore
