HI,

Sounds more like single-handed GP bashing.

In my experience, there are two types of single-handed GP - Those who work in rural areas where it is the only way a local service can be delivered and those who no other GP wants' to work with. There are a few mavericks, who while impossible as a colleagues, are still wonderful  doctors but in general single handed practices in urban areas strike me as something that should have gone a long time ago.

Hello GP-UK-at-JISCMAIL.AC.UK,

Apologies for late notice, only just picked this up, if missed should
be able to see on BBC iplayer until late tomorrow:

============================================================
NEWSNIGHT - Wednesday 22 July 2009  - 22.30 BST - BBC TWO
============================================================

------------------------------------------------------------
Presented by Gavin Esler
------------------------------------------------------------

From Gavin Esler:

"Dealing with this pandemic is a marathon, not a sprint" - Sir Liam
Donaldson, Chief Medical Officer for England, on swine flu.

Does the old-fashioned family doctor have a future?

As we brace ourselves for what could be the worst flu outbreak of our
lifetime, swine flu, Newsnight has uncovered evidence that raises a
number of important questions over the future of GPs who work on their
own.

They are six times more likely to be subjected to disciplinary
hearings than GPs working in group practices. That's according to GMC
figures. We'll explain in the programme.
