PS don't forget to check out if you're council has some healthy living grants of 5K to give for specific projects as well such as those involving physical excercise and healthy lifestyle choices, they were given in areas of high economic deprivation so its worth asking!
Hello all,
I'm forwarding this email to the list (with permission from Neil), in case anyone has any suggetions regarding support for this service. I wondered whether anyone on the list may know of sources of funding for projects like this.
Many thanks,
Wendy
Dear All, today I phoned S N of All Stars Community Club. He has taken on some boys recommended by the YOT, and I wanted to ask him about it. He told me that he is open 7 days a week and has about 50-60 young people (6-19yrs) at the club, most of them attending 6 nights a week. He said that when he opened he was told from a number of sources that if he made it a "community" facility and kept prices down he would get lots of support and funding, because it reduces crime, kids hanging about on street corners etc. However, nearly all this funding has dried up and he sounded really desperate; he has not paid himself any salary recently, is struggling to pay instructors and is thinking of closing (which would throw all these young people back out on the streets again 6 nights a week) or of changing the business by raising prices and running it as a sports club for adults. It seems really ironic that I hear of numerous meetings and conferences about how we might set up projects for young people, prevent antisocial behaviour etc, yet here is someone who is actually doing it but cannot get the funding. Is there any way you can help? Neil Maxwell Norfolk YOT |
