Dear List - I am new to this group but really pleased to have been pointed in your direction as I am organizing a conference on Black Screen Heritage which is taking place on 31st July at Imperial War Museum (London).

The conference is subsidized by Skillset so places are just £20 for the day (including lunch!) and there is a great range of speakers confirmed including Cy Grant, BBC, the British Film Institute, the Imperial War Museum, Autograph, Yorkshire Film Archive and a range of other film archives and community organisations.

I do hope this is of interest and that some of you will be able to join us - please do contact me off list if you have any queries.

BOOK NOW FOR THE BLACK SCREEN HERITAGE CONFERENCE ON 31ST JULY

Film London in partnership with Imperial War Museum and Yorkshire Film Archive, supported by Skillset, invite you to attend the Black Screen Heritage Conference.

The Black Screen Heritage Conference will be the first event to bring together film archive professionals and community workers from across the country to discuss the issues involved in creating accessible collections relating to Black British heritage, share knowledge and create a map of activity in this area.

With presentations from both archivists and Black cultural organisations including the BBC, Imperial War Museum, BFI, Yorkshire Film Archive and Cinnamon Films, the day will offer ideas for approaching key issues: from finding footage, to cataloguing, and working collaboratively with communities to create new ways of accessing the material. We hope that we can help to create the groundwork for a more co-ordinated approach across the sector and to offer inspiration for new approaches to Black History Month.

Who should attend? Moving image archivists and curators from all public and commercial collections who wish to reach a broader audience and keep their collections relevant to today's communities; non-specialist archivists from collections holding film wishing to open up their film resources; black cultural organisations interested in working with film; film curators keen to expand their programmes and reach new audiences; community arts workers and audience development managers.

Date: Friday 31 July

Time: Conference 9.30am - 6.00pm. Additional Screening Programme 6.30pm - 8.00pm (tbc).

Venue: Imperial War Museum, Lambeth Road, SE1 6HZ. www.iwm.org.uk
