A unique opportunity for both archive users and practitioners to learn more about and comment on new the proposed public archives strategy with representatives from The National Archives at a central London venue. 

Archives for London, in association with the Centre for Metropolitan History, is delighted to host a discussion on ‘Archives for the 21st century’, the Government’s vision of the future of publicly funded archive services in England and Wales.

‘Archives for the 21st century’ is a consultation document, and the main proposals the Government is seeking views on include:

•       Fewer, bigger, better: increased sustainability through the integration and collaboration of services;

•       A co-ordinated response to digital information management;

•       Comprehensive online access for archive discovery.

Nick Kingsley, head of archives sector development at The National Archives, will introduce the document followed by panel and floor discussions chaired by David Mander, chair of AfL. The panel will comprise archive users and practitioners representing public sector archives in London.
