I was so excited about going to county hall to work on information management that I put this up slightly too early and before it was on the county council's website! In fact, the job should be up next week (or this week by the time most of you get this) and the closing date has, therefore, been extended to the 10th August. Please ring Margaret for a chat if you are interested.

Because of the short timescale this job will not be advertised in ARC

Secondment Opportunity

Post : Keeper (Access and Information)

Location : Record Office for Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland
Long St, Wigston Magna, Leicester LE18 2AH

Time period : Temporary for 3 months

Grade : 12

An opportunity to run a busy Record Office’s public service and increase access to archive and library collections has arisen because of the secondment of the present holder.  This post would suit someone seeking experience in the management of frontline staff and the oversight of a number of access and outreach projects, or a temporary secondment.

The role of Keeper (Access and Information) is key to the development of information services, including a proactive website.  Cross-sector working, particularly relating to local studies library holdings across the county, community archives and the growing teaching and learning resources of the Record Office, is essential.

A relevant degree and a recognised professional qualification in archives or librarianship is essential for this post, and some professional experience is also necessary.  Computer literacy, excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required, and the ability to work to deadlines.

For an informal discussion about the post and the application process, please contact Margaret Bonney, Chief Archivist, on 0116 257 1080.

Closing date : 10 August 2009
