Dear Fiona,

I know of two theses on the subject, including Mark Beech's undergraduate work on the bones from chambered tombs in the Orkneys and then Jane Liddle's Masters thesis on the animal bones from West Kennet. Mark was at the Instritute of Archaeology (now UCL) and Jane was at Sheffield. The dates are about 1985 and 1998 respectively. Its possible that one or other of the references mentioned by Jacqui could refer to these.

All the best

Kevin

Subject: [ZOOARCH] Megalithic tomb references

Hello Zooarchers,

I am looking at an assemblage from a Neolithic chambered tomb in Ireland and would be very interested in references for (or even copies of!) reports from megalithic tombs either in Ireland or elsewhere for comparison.

Interestingly the assemblage is dominated by hare (not gnawed) with dog (not fox) a distant second and only relatively small numbers of Cattle/Sheep/Pig bones.
All the best and thanks in advance

Fiona
