House of Dreams by Michael Szpakowski and Edward Picot

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRr4e8ve7O8

About a year ago Michael Szpakowski posted on YouTube a remix of Radiohead's
"House of Cards", and Picot was so smitten with it that he kept trying to think
of some words to go with it. Eventually heI came up with a video called "House
of Dreams", which Doron Golan has just posted on the DVblog site at
http://dvblog.org/movies/06_2009/picot/houseofdreams1.mov . It uses images
from Second Life and The Endless Forest, footage from the original Radiohead
video for "House of Cards", and some of Michael's own Gif Cinema imagery.
You can also see it on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRr4e8ve7O8 .

REGINA VATER
MEMORY OF LIGHT

The Embassy of Brazil proudly presents Memory of Light, an exhibition of works by Regina Vater, an artist that has been at the forefront of the Brazilian art scene since the 1970's.

Vater is recognised for her engagement in the production and dissemination of visual arts internationally, 'creating installation works of great delicacy', as Guy Brett has described her works, and her closeness to the expression of the poetry of the Concrete movement in Brazil. In her own country, in Europe and later in the United States, where she has lived since the 1980's, Vater became closely related to important figures in the artistic world, such as Hélio Oiticica, Lygia Clark, Augusto de Campos and John Cage. Her oeuvre encompasses an array of different media, ranging from photography and drawing to video and site-specific installation. Vater is also known for her continuous commitment to the diffusion of the works of both Brazilian and international artists.

Memory of Light will present a variety of recent works: To Leonardo, a series of large photographic images, or 'digital paintings', of dilapidated walls in colonial towns in the northeast of Brazil on which Vater later inscribes poetic notes in reverse and drawings for installations; and the installations Seek in the Unseen and Beauty will Appear, an homage to the Sufi poet Farid Ud-Din Attar; Om Mani Padme Hum, a visual representation of the mantra of the Buddha of compassion, Avalokiteshvara; and Memória da Luz (Memory of Light), a piece designed especially for the show at Gallery 32. These works echo Vater's preoccupations with questions of time, metaphysics and the human condition.
