Dear List,
People may be interested in a seminar on 'Measuring the Impact of Involvement', that will take place at the University of Warwick on 2 July 2009. The seminar is the third in an ESRC sponsored series on Exploring the Impact of Public Involvement: Understanding the role of theory, practice and culture
A small amount of funding is available to subsidize travel by member of the public and more junior researchers.
The agenda of the seminar is below and I do hope you will join us
Measuring the Impact of Involvement
Despite shifts in policy and international agreements there is little evidence of the impact that public involvement makes on policy making or influencing and shaping the design or delivery of public sector services. A limited number of systematic reviews have assessed the evidence of involvement but have tended to focus on the experienceof those invovled rather thn the implications for the organisation and delivery of public sector services and mostly have been limited to healthcare.
This seminar seeks to consider how conceptual and theoretical models can help to frame an approach to considering the different impacts of involvement on participants, public managers, policy makers, policy content and implementation and public sector organisations and how these could be measured.

The NHS Centre for Involvement will support NHS staff and organisations to work with patients and the public to more effectively evaluate and develop services. Key to this process is understanding the experience of patients and the public and implementing change based on their views.
The Centre does this through identifying and disseminating examples of good practice, utilising high quality evidence based research, facilitating networks of professionals, patients and the public to help improve the development of services and supporting the NHS to embed involvement into its culture.
