Science Media Centre

Office Manager & Fundraising Administrator

Salary c. £22,000

Do you care passionately about the way science is covered in the media? Do you yell at the TV when science stories are sensationalised or inaccurate? Could you cope with working in one of the busiest, fastest-moving press offices in the UK? Are you renowned for your organisational abilities and taking multitasking to the limits? If this sounds like you, read on....

As Office Manager & Fundraising Administrator at the Science Media Centre it will be entirely your responsibility to ensure the smooth running of the Centre and help the press officers to do their job effectively - this can include everything from fixing the photocopier and making sure the coffee machine is fit for purpose to organising all of the logistics around major press briefings and devising the best systems to monitor the SMC's prolific output.

You will also be responsible for looking after more than 80 SMC funders, which will include chasing invoices, updating the funding database on a daily basis, setting up meetings for the Director and identifying potential new fundraising opportunities.

The right candidate for this job will be someone who wants a career in science communication but is prepared to start it by offering their exceptional organisational skills to support those on the front line. We're looking for a hard-working, outgoing individual who will thrive in a fast-paced environment where the ability to demonstrate initiative and keep a clear head will be essential. This is not a press officer's role, but everything you do will be aimed at helping the team at the SMC to influence and improve the quality of science reporting in the UK. Admin jobs do not come more exciting than this one!
