Thanks, Pat - I did wonder if they were celluloid, but it has stayed very clear, no yellowing at all.
I'll see if I can trace the paper you mention.
Cheers
Tony

I've got an amoeba that I thought was glass, but it isn't Blashka quailty, so it sits in the garage! I thought it was probably celluloid, but never opend the case to find out. There is an old paper (Shufeldt?) about use of celluloid in taxidermy.

I have just discovered a set of octopus models which I didn't know we had (only been here 30 years, after all!). They must have been in our invertebrate gallery which was put together in the 1950's, I think. At first I thought they might be Blaschka, the modelling is so good, but they appear to be made from a plastic, rather than glass. Does anyone know of such models, who might have produced them, and exactly what they are made from? I can send photos to anyone who is interested or may be able to help.
Many thanks
Tony

Thanks Pat,

If Tony Irwin has a spare square inch or two in his room and can take them (if you're going to Norwich that is!) then that would be great but only if Tony is agreeable...? I don't like to ask too much of Tony as he always seems to end up doing me favours!

Just in case - is anyone throwing out any drawers or boxes of damaged butterflies? Preferably still not with live pests within! Reason I am asking is that they are ideal for my insect repair courses that I may soon be undertaking.

I cannot come miles to collect but if they can be somehow got to me via meetings &c, that would be great!
