Dear all,

We experience a large performance problem last week when a large number of students accessed Moodle concurrently and have since had conflicting advice over what caused it. I was curious to see what other establishments have in place.

Does anyone have any guidelines or advice they would like to share on hosting arrangements they have in place for Moodle (internal or external).
Is it on a dedicated server?
Is it a virtual machine?
Is it on a windows machine or Linux?
What kind of spec is the server?
If hosting externally, who with and what is the experience/cost like?
Have you had any issues with performance when high numbers of students are accessing the site or courses concurrently?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

Dai Baynes

I've just asked...

Not sure if price changes dependant on size, but for us (1100 users), £1.30 per user for the bulk import version and £1.70 per user for the automated version which works alongside your MIS and creates / disables AD accounts as predefined events occur.

Maintenance is 20% per year.

What kind of price range would we be looking at for URMA, is it hundreds or thousands? Any ongoing maintenance fees?

For bulk account & password generation, we use UMRA from Tools4Ever

Subject: AD Tools

Hi everyone,

We are pretty new to AD (Moving from eDir) and was wondering what tools
people use for managing and manipulating their Directory?

In particular, how do people import student user accounts and passwords
at the beginning of the year?

All help gratefully received!

Best wishes,

Robin
