Day 1 - Selecting, Acquiring and Managing Stock

 

Course summary

An introductory overview of processes involved in selecting, acquiring and managing library stock. This practical course will cover a wide range of day-to-day operations, introduce the issues involved in stock selection and supply specification, and discuss the essential financial context of this area of work. It will focus on the development of the sound understanding needed to promote effective, efficient and informed working practices and enhanced levels of customer service.

The course is designed for all those involved in selecting, acquiring and managing library stock - whether based in a library or support services.

 

The course is suitable for staff new to selecting, acquiring and managing stock. It will also be of interest to those seeking to consolidate and update their knowledge in these areas.

 

The course is suitable for staff at a variety of levels from library assistant to supervisor and  librarian.

Day 2 - UK Publishing and Library Supply 

 

Course summary

An introductory overview of the UK book trade and library supply industry

 

This course will introduce delegates to key issues and trends in the current UK book market, examine the central role of the bibliographical data supplier, and provide an insight into library supply and the contractual framework which governs trading relationships with libraries. A visit to Askews Library Services will provide the opportunity to examine, and learn from, a commercial supply operation.

 

The course will focus on the development of the sound understanding needed to promote effective, efficient and informed working practices and enhanced levels of customer service.

The course is designed for all those working with the selection, acquisition or management of library stock – wihether in library or support services situations.
