Career Development Group (London & South East Divisions) - Sponsoring 1 place at the CDG New Professionals Conference

The Career Development Group (London & South East Divisions) would like to offer sponsorship to a New Professional to attend the forthcoming New Professionals Conference. Full details and deadlines for applying are listed below. 

 

Who is a New Professional?

New Professionals are colleagues who have joined the profession, either through work or study, in the last 5 years.

 

What is the event?

The conference is taking place on Monday 6 July at London Metropolitan University. The event is being organized by the Career Development Group and the Diversity Group of CILIP, in partnership with the Department of Applied Social Sciences, London Metropolitan University. 

The theme of the event is "What is it like to be an Information Professional in the 21st Century? Forum and Debate from a New Professionals Perspective".  It will focus around the delivery of presentations on the issues of: The New Generation, Meeting the Challenges, Marketing Ourselves and Career Profiles. There will also be the opportunity to discuss and share experiences throughout the day and to vote for the best paper.

Seal of Recognition: 

The Career Development Group has been awarded the CILIP Seal of Recognition <http://www.cilip.org.uk/qualificationschartership/seal/> , which recognises high standards in the content and relevance of its training.

 

Conference Learning outcomes:

1.	Improved understanding of issues relevant to New Library & Information Professionals 
2.	 More detailed understanding of what attracts New Professionals into the Library & Information world. 
3.	 Awareness of what New Professionals are bringing to the changing world of libraries and information 
4.	 Awareness of what are the current issues for New Professionals and improved confidence to tackle them 
5.	Clear understanding of marketing techniques specially relevant to New Professionals 
6.	 An understanding of the need for New Professionals to develop and model relevant skills in the context of an increasingly globalised world. 

 

What does the sponsorship cover?

Sponsorship includes the cost of the place plus up to £36.75 for travel expenses with a combined cost of up to £100. 

A receipt for travel costs would need to be provided. 

Delegate rate for CDG Members - £55 + 15% VAT = £63.25            

Delegate rate includes refreshments and buffet lunch. 

 

How to apply for the sponsored place?

The sponsored place is open to Career Development Group London & South East members. 

If you are interested in applying, please send your name, CILIP membership number, contact details and a short paragraph explaining why would like to attend the conference and what you would expect to get out of the event by Friday 19 June 2009. 

Applications will be decided by the committee on the basis of your statement and the recipient will be notified by Friday 26 June 2009. 

Whoever is selected as recipient of the sponsored place will be expected to write an article for our Divisional Newsletter "Directions".
