Position Description:
The Dickinson-in-Bremen Academic Director is a part-time position with
re-appointment annually by the Office of Global Education at Dickinson
College, to whom the Academic Director reports. The Academic Director is
responsible for the coordination of all academic components of the
Dickinson-in-Bremen Program, which typically enrolls between 5 and 10
students during the academic year. In addition, the Director may be called
upon to assist with special projects with considerable notice and prior
consent. Include 3 names and contact information of your professional
references. This is a 10 month part-time position located in Bremen, German
with review and possible re-appointment annually.
The review of applications will begin as of June 29 and will continue until
the position is filled.

Primary responsibilities fall into two major categories:

Academic:

- Teaching or team-teaching German 340 Comparative Cultures: USA-Germany,
which is required of all participants in the program
- Continuous collaboration with the Program Coordinator in Bremen as well as
the International Office at the University of Bremen to maximize activities
that will foster student learning
- Coordinating the collection and dissemination of students' grades upon
completion of the program, and reporting class enrolments and grades to the
Office of Global Education and the Registrar at Dickinson
- Acting as students' primary advisor on academic matters, helping them
choose appropriate courses, and in general offering advice on negotiating
their courses/internships in Germany
- Monitoring academic standards appropriate to Dickinson's home campus,
including monitoring of assessment policies in collaboration with the Bremen
Program Committee
- Supervising independent study projects as available/necessary

Administrative:

- Communicating regularly with the Office of Global Education and
cooperating with college initiatives in international education
- Working closely with the [Dickinson] on-campus coordinator in setting the
calendar and preparing relevant academic budgets
- Assisting in delivering, in cooperation with the Program Coordinator, a
comprehensive on-site orientation preparing students to navigate the
academic system in Bremen
- Maintaining relations with the University of Bremen, in particular faculty
with whom students take courses, and the International Office as appropriate
- Ensuring that all students' grades reach the Dickinson College Registrar
in a timely manner

Required Qualifications: Ph.D. from an accredited program; extensive
knowledge of both the German and US higher education systems; experience
teaching at the university level; fluency in English and German.
Physical Demands        Minimal: lecturing, accompanying students on
academic excursions within Germany and possibly neighboring countries
Work Schedule:  10-15 hours per week, may vary based on academic excursions
