Lectureship in European Studies and German

Applications are invited for a Lecturership in European Studies and German. Candidates should have research interests in International Relations/Public Policy with a specifically European dimension and the ability teach in these areas as well as in German Politics at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The successful candidate will contribute inter alia to the new MA in European Public Policy (starting in 2009/10) and help increase the programme’s international and research student intake.

The Department of German is the second oldest in the country, with a very distinguished record of teaching and research. It was established in 1831 and over the years has built up a strong academic tradition and made a very significant contribution to German studies, both nationally and internationally. It is one of only two departments of its kind in the United Kingdom which has achieved the highest possible ranking for its research in each of the Research Assessment Exercises undertaken since 1986.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the development of a vibrant research environment for European Studies and German at King's by publishing in his/her field of expertise. Experience of PhD supervision may be an advantage. He or she will be expected to have a good speaking and reading knowledge of the modern German language.

The successful candidate will be a member of the European Studies programme, as well as of the Department of German. The European Studies Programme at King’s already has successful BA, MA, and PhD programmes and is launching, together with the King’s Institute for the Study of Public Policy (KISPP), a new MA in European Public Policy in September 2009.

The appointment will be made, dependent on relevant qualifications and experience, within the Grade 6/7 scale, currently £32,917- £47,253 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.  Benefits include an annual season ticket loan scheme and a final salary superannuation scheme.
