Dear all

Below is a message that Alan Gibbs of Midland Valley wished to post to the list to update you all on aspects of the Field Mapping Initiative. He couldn't post it directly as the pdf file that gives the details is too large to be distributed via the list. So, I've placed the file in the geo-tectonics files area, you will be able to access it by clicking this link -

This presents a directory listing and the file you require is fieldmapping_email.pdf

Alan's message -

Hi Everyone,

Many of you will remember the discussions a while back on digital mapping
and on teaching field mapping skills. You will probably also remember that I
had a bit of a rant about that. As a result we set up a field mapping
initiative and have made the software available free to Universities for
teaching and research. I know that many of you have now taken advantage of
this and are using our stuff as part of your teaching/research armoury.

We been putting our money where our mouth is and taking our own medicine and
I thought you'd like to see some of what we've been doing. The attached
poster shows some work the Midland Valley team we did over Easter as a
workflow development project up in Eribol. We hope that you can use this to
help inspire some of your own "nintendo" generation.

I'd like to thank Rob Butler who looked after us in the field and who we'll
be working with to continue this development.

If any of you are going to the AAPG next week drop by our stand and we've
got the Eribol models and the kit for you to take a look at.

Best wishes for the summer (northern hemisphere folks!) mapping season and
please remind your students to think of submitting an entry for our
structure price this fall.

Alan
