Maybe the most 'famous' example of something like this Blackpool's World Heritage bid ?

Discussed e.g. here:

John Walton and Jason Wood who've been main movers behind the bid could also be good contacts for other seaside / amusement park type information.

I would also like to hear about such cases. Can you please post to list?

Thanks, Cornelius

Subject: Theme parks and rides

Dear all

I have been contacted by Andy Law, Lecturer in Town Planning at Newcastle University , who is developing a project application on ‘Dreamland’, an amusement park in Margate , Kent . His email address is: [log in to unmask]">[log in to unmask].

His first question referred specifically to designation:

I was wondering whether there are or have been any theme parks or indeed actual rides in Britain that have been listed or are considered worthy of listing?  Particularly I am interested in knowing whether any actual rides such as Rollercoasters have been listed? For instance I would be interested to know whether any old theme parks

or pleasure/amusement parks have been listed as conservation areas, or would such spaces fall into the remit of wider conservation areas?

But a follow-up concerns the degree to which such sites are recorded archaeologically, or have been included on HERs.

If anyone is able to help, can they email Andy direct.

With thanks.

John
