There was recently an open mental health debate forum in Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. There was a large turn-out and enthusiasm for the debate on the motion “The diagnosis of Schizophrenia is outdated, unscientific, stigmatising and should be abolished”. It was debated by 2 Consultant Psychiatrists. The result of the anonymous vote was 8 Abstentions, 17 against the motion and 39 in support of the motion. Therefore, “this house believes that the diagnosis of “schizophrenia” is outdated, unscientific, stigmatising and should be abolished”.
