What are the core elements of strategic planning and do they all fit together

This day will look at helping delegates identify vision for their archival service or project and how these can turning into reachable goals underpinned by firm strategic thinking.  It will help delegates understand how the three parts form the core elements of strategic planning and how they all fit together.

Creating a vision

Delegates will be introduced to creative thinking techniques to generate ideas to create their own vision.  Delegates will also examine the qualities of the vision to inform the goals.  These would include people & behaviour, environment, communications, products and services.

Setting goals

Delegates will consider the general qualities of good goals  i.e. SMART, stretching, balanced (customers, finances, people, processes), reflecting the Vision’s qualities.  Delegates will then undertake a brief analysis of their current situation through the following processes:

Strategy

This section will concentrate how the vision and goal setting feed into developing overall strategic thinking and how this can inform services.  It will also look a what is strategy and it’s major components.
