I need replies back asap - thanks
Hi Jessica

Completed questionairre attached.

Your expenses cheque is in the post.

Abbreviations on St Aubyn sheets are likely to be
[Observations] A - annual; P - perennial
[Gen Char.] M: male; F: female; B - ??both

[Spec. Char.] - , I suspect these are translations from the Latin descriptions in Hudson's Flora Anglia (they are very similar to the same in Linnaeus' Species Plantarum). They are not original observations by St Aubyn.

Medicinal and other uses - I think it's worth while checkling all the likely contemporary works which St Aubyn may have had access to. It's quite possible that he copied information directly from such a source rather than these being original observations - it would be a shame if you publish these as original only to find that they are lifted directly from another source!

Best wishes
Tony

Subject: I need replies back asap - thanks

Hello everyone!

I hope everyone is well and back to reality after a crazy few days in Leeds.  As I said I would at the conference, I am writing to you because Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery are researching the possibility of publishing a book based on what we have  discovered from our 18th century herbarium. We have been undertaking a project on this collection since January 2008 and have unearthed some fascinating finds.  The most intriguing of which are the descriptions on how to use some of the specimens for medicinal and domestic purposes.  Rather than to have this information hidden in our stores, we have created an online herbarium (www.plymouth.gov.uk/staubynherbarium) for everyone to see.  However, recently we have felt that it would be more accessible to present this information in a book format as well.

We would be really grateful if you could fill in the attached questionnaire. It should only take 5 minutes (maximum) to fill out.

Thanks for your time,

Jess
