If you wish to make an announcement or publicise an event then please send the text to: [log in to unmask] +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ THE POSTGRADUATE STS CONFERENCE IS PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE ITS SHI FOUNDATION-FUNDED SCHOLARSHIPS www.psts.org.uk The PSTS Conference has been awarded funding by the Sociology of Health and Illness Foundation for a number of travel and attendance scholarships for postgraduate students working in either STS or medical sociology who are conducting research of relevance to the other field. Examples include those working in a medical sociology domain using Actor Network Theory, or those addressing expectations of medical diagnostics; there are many others. The application deadline is 22nd May 2009. Applications should be sent to [log in to unmask] and should include the following: * A completed abstract submission form downloadable from the website www.psts.org.uk * A curriculum vitae (no more than 2 pages) The awards include the cost of attending the conference (£125) and a contribution to travel expenses (up to £50). PLEASE FIND BELOW THE ORIGINAL CALL FOR ABSTRACTS The Institute for Science and Society at the University of Nottingham invites you to the first UK Postgraduate Science and Technology Studies (PSTS) conference on the 28th and 29th July 2009. If you are engaged in research in science, technology and society and related fields, then the event will provide a key forum in which to present on-going research and build networks within the UK STS community. The conference is organised by postgraduate students and is intended for postgrads, giving participants unique opportunities to: * Present research to a relevant audience * Receive commentary on work-in-progress in a friendly and supportive environment * Practice presentation skills * Meet students with similar research interests * Listen to keynote speakers with established careers in the field * Carry debates across disciplinary boundaries * Reflect on the identities of UK STS * Build working relationships at an early career stage Keynote Speakers Dr. Sujatha Raman, Institute for Science and Society, University of Nottingham Dr. Nik Brown, Science and Technology Studies Unit, University of York Dr. Paul Martin, Institute for Science and Society, University of Nottingham Dr. Adam Hedgecoe, Department of Sociology, University of Sussex Cost, Accommodation and Travel The early registration conference fee is £125 which includes en suite accommodation in University halls, all meals and the conference dinner.
