Holy Wells in Wales

A weekend conference at the WISCA centre, Bangor University

Saturday and Sunday 12-13 September 2009.

 

Saturday morning: 9.30-1 pm:  

Dr Madeleine Gray, University of Wales, Newport: 'A medieval collection of miracle stories from St Mary's Well, Penrhys'.

Eirlys Gruffydd: 'Surveying and Preserving Welsh Wells'.

Tristan Gray Hulse: 'Elias Owen and the Holy Wells of North Wales'.

Angela Graham, Cardiff: 'Our Lady of Penrhys - regeneration, revival and the re-launch of a shrine'.

Lunch 1-2 pm.

Saturday afternoon: round table discussion on recent research and reconstruction projects including the proposed revision of Francis Jones's Holy Wells of Wales. 

Sunday: visit some of Anglesey's holy wells and their associated churches, including Llaneilian and the lovely priory and well complex at Penmon. Transport can be arranged.

 

Fee: £7.50 (includes lunch on Saturday).

Accommodation: there are numerous providers in Bangor, or contact the University accommodation office at (01248) 388 088.
