Hi All,

Thank you ever so much for all your helpful responses.

My student is going to try some quotes from the shipping companies that were recommended through their academic department and get back to me.  The DSA assessor has given me advice and looks like he'll support the request. I hope to phone the LEA and get all this confirmed as well.  The chair has a replacement value of ~£700 so it's probably well worth shipping rather than replacing but that's a useful thought as well!

Once all of this has pulled together I will post back to this list and summarise what I did and how it went.

Many thanks!

Natalya

Dear All
I'd agree with Simon that support during study abroad needs to be negotiated in advance with the LA/Funding Body and I haven't found this to be a problem.  LAs have refunded costs incurred on the presentation of receipts by the sudent.  However, with regard to the particular example of an ergonomic chair or other bulky equipment might it not be more economic, in more ways than one, for the student to be supplied with one locally in their overseas placement.  Just a thought.
