Following a successful funding bid to the Joint Information Systems Committee, The National Archives are pleased to announce a study to investigate 'Delivering Coordinated UK Web Archives to User Communities'.

The study aims to:
* Assess future user research needs and preferences for access to the whole of the UK's archived web collections * Define long term historical and research value of online content in the UK * Inform web archiving selection decisions from both a selective, in-depth and broad collecting approach * Examine the capacity for 'event-based' selection in response to major UK and international events * Document where collecting organisations' remits and interests begin, end and overlap

The approach will include analyses of:
o users and potential users of archived web content o web archiving organisations in the UK * Research into the scope of the UK 'web space' and current collecting activity

We'll also consider creators and publishers both as users - whether professional, academic, business or the general public -  and as potential collectors.

The study takes place in collaboration with the UK Web Archiving Consortium to inform:
* Current and future collaboration and collecting activities * Current and future options for access and presentation of archived content within organisational resource constraints

We are keen to involve users and potential users of web archives; please contact [log in to unmask] if you would like to take part in surveys or discussions.

The study will run until late July 2009, and the results will be published on The National Archives and UK Web Archiving Consortium websites in August 2009.
