The purpose - as hasn't really been stated by the DCSF, which is irritating - is to provide an index for professionals - to confirm the details of children we're working with, and to allow a quick way to see a) if the child isn't receiving key statutory servcies, which is an indicator of a problem in itself and b) to allow them to see what other professionals are working with the child. This can take days at the moment and in some cases (and in some authorities) can be out of date and unreliable. Unreliable data will also quickly be spotted if it is available across professional teams, and may force some providers to get their houses in order in this regard. It isn't going to be a panacea - saying it would automatically prevent another Climbie case is disingenuous. However, it is an enabling tool to put professionals in touch which each, in an area where service delivery is now a diverse mix. It will only work with use and will be reliant on practitioner buy-in - it will also only work with a full data set, otherwise there will still be the risk of children falling through the net... ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ All archives of messages are stored permanently and are available to the world wide web community at large at http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/data-protection.html If you wish to leave this list please send the command leave data-protection to [log in to unmask] All user commands can be found at http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/help/commandref.htm Any queries about sending or receiving messages please send to the list owner [log in to unmask] Full help Desk - please email [log in to unmask] describing your needs To receive these emails in HTML format send the command: SET data-protection HTML to [log in to unmask] (all commands go to [log in to unmask] not the list please) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
