Spinoza and Bodies

10-11 September 2009
University of Dundee, Scotland

Speakers: Daniel Selcer, Caroline Williams, Michael Mack, Eric Schliesser

This conference focuses on uses of Spinoza in the sciences and social sciences, considering (for example) physical bodies, individuation, epistemology, materialism, ecology, philosophy of mind, and philosophy of nature, as well as Spinoza's thinking about bodies of scientific knowledge, law, ethics, and politics.

POSTGRADUATE CALL FOR PAPERS:

Abstracts are invited from Masters and PhD students for papers of 45-minutes reading time on any topic relevant to the conference theme. This is an interdisciplinary network, and papers looking at Spinoza from a non- (or not strictly) philosophical perspective are welcome. Postgraduate speakers will have their travel and accommodation expenses covered.

Please send an abstract of around 300 words, along with your name, department, institution, email address and phone number. Deadline: 15 June 2009. Email abstracts to Michael Burns at [log in to unmask]
