The British Library
Cataloguer of Modern Literary Manuscripts

Ref: S&C00168
Location: London, St Pancras
Position Type: Fixed Term
Specialism:
Cataloguers

Salary: £23, 436

Fixed Term x 12 months

Closing date: 17 May 2009

The Department of Western Manuscripts holds one of the most significant collections of modern literary archives in the country. This post has been funded for 12 months to process the archive of the theatrical agent Peggy Ramsay, including ledgers, files and correspondence of distinguished clients spanning the second half of the 20th century.

For this challenging project we are seeking a cataloguer who will organise and box the material, catalogue it using our new standards-based automated cataloguing system, and promote it with appropriate publicity during and at the end of the twelve-month period.

You will have a good honours degree in a relevant subject, and either a professional archive qualification or experience of arranging and cataloguing archives for public use. You will also understand the preservation needs of modern papers and have general IT skills. It's also important that you can work independently and to meet deadlines. Experience of theatre-based research using original source material would be highly desirable.
